Flood Distraction #1

February 27, 2011 § Leave a comment

As the river continues to rise, I’m finding myself searching for new ways to distract my flood-obsessed mind. Refreshing the hydrograph ad nauseam is probably not the best use of my time.

Focusing on redoing a room that may soon be saturated and destroyed seems like a logical choice, right? I mean, if you’ve already got a plumber at the house to install a new water heater and an electrician to hook the new furnace, would it be cost effective to have them also run pipes/wiring to install a dishwasher?  That’s what I’m banking on…

We started with grimy, broken cabinets, covered in dark paint.

Before we moved in, I scrubbed liked crazy and slapped white paint over everything, just to make it livable.  We changed hardware, moved the lonely fridge and began putting in new lighting.

In order to afford to remove the peeling flooring, remove the crumbling lower cabinets, buy butcher block counter tops, and install a dishwasher, we could only afford to buy stock cabinets from Home Depot.  I’ve got two weeks to figure out what color I want to paint them.

I’m really leaning towards repainting all the walls, and painting the lower cabinets a bright color.  However, part of me still want to stay with the all-white look.  Below are my favorite kitchen examples.

Imagine that. It snowed during the night.

I haven’t yet ventured out.  One look out the kitchen window was enough to put off my plans for driving into work.  Our Christmas tree is looking shorter and shorter as those piles become higher and higher.  But it’s got to get better, right? I’m starting to hear birds in the morning.  That’s got to be a good sign.

Where Am I?
